TL;DR

Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (SMT): Developing and optimizing Surface Mount Technology processes for next-generation augmented reality hardware with an accent on design for manufacturability (DFM), yield improvement, and product miniaturization. Focus on executing technology roadmaps, managing contract manufacturer relationships, and solving complex PCBA assembly challenges.

Location: Must be based in Palo Alto, CA; role requires 4+ days per week in the office.

Salary: $195,000–$343,000 (based on pay zone).

What you will do

  • Collaborate with engineering and contract manufacturers to ensure SMT design for manufacturability.
  • Review PCBA and padstack designs to optimize yields, performance, and reliability.
  • Plan and execute SMT technology roadmaps for product miniaturization and advanced bonding processes.
  • Coordinate Design-of-Experiments to extend manufacturing capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in factory yield and throughput.
  • Perform failure analysis and resolution for SMT-related defects.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience with SMT in the consumer electronics industry.
  • Strong background in SMT screen printing, placement, reflow, and ACF bonding.
  • Experience utilizing DFM tools for PCBA and padstack design.
  • Solid understanding of Six Sigma concepts.
  • Ability to travel 10-30% of the time, primarily to Asia.

  • Advanced degree in a related technical field.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
  • Experience working with both internal and external partners, domestic and overseas.
