What you will do

  • Manage a caseload of legacy claims from receipt of papers to the final resolution of costs.
  • Proactively review cases to formulate initial costs strategies and settlement parameters.
  • Prepare points of dispute, analyze case strengths and weaknesses, and negotiate settlements.
  • Liaise with insurers and clients, providing comprehensive advice and regular progress reports.
  • Conduct advocacy at application hearings, detailed assessment hearings, and mediations, both remotely and in person.
  • Delegate tasks to paralegals and support their technical development and achievement of objectives.

Requirements

  • Degree, LPC, and/or ALCD qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Detailed Assessment process and relevant CPR provisions relating to costs.
  • Strong telephone negotiation and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize workloads while remaining calm under pressure.
  • Must be able to work from the Birmingham or Bolton offices (Hybrid).

Nice to have

  • Previous experience in a junior costs negotiator role for either claimant or defendant.
  • Understanding of current cost case law and insurance litigation practice.
