TL;DR
Design Engineer (Passive Thermal Systems): Design, model, and document passive thermal insulation systems for aerospace programs with an accent on CREO-based 3D/2D drawings and review-ready documentation. Focus on building MLI, cryo-MLI, and SOFI deliverables, incorporating review feedback, and meeting program requirements in an ITAR-controlled environment.
Location: Fully remote from anywhere in the United States

What you will do
- Develop complete 3D and 2D models and engineering drawings for passive thermal insulation systems using CREO.
- Produce drawings in .CATDrawing or .drw formats and ensure deliverables are complete and ready for peer review and final approval.
- Support MLI blanket flat patterns, layup stackups, and installation details for cylindrical and complex geometries.
- Support cryo-MLI drawings (purge provisions, perforated layer callouts, and cryogenic material specifications).
- Support SOFI drawings (coverage maps, thickness callouts by zone, ramp/transition geometry, and application sequence details).
- Incorporate review feedback and manage drawing revisions while documenting engineering requirements.
Requirements
- US work authorization: must be a Green Card holder or US Citizen
- Bachelorβs degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3β8 years of experience in engineering design or drafting within aerospace/defense (or related industry).
- Proficiency in CREO for 3D modeling and 2D drawing creation.
- Experience producing engineering drawings in .drw format.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and document engineering requirements.
Nice to have
- Direct experience with passive thermal insulation systems (MLI, cryo-MLI, or SOFI).
- Experience with NASA, commercial space, or DoD space/launch vehicle programs.
- Familiarity with cryogenic propellant system design and purge/vent requirements.
- Knowledge of aerospace manufacturing and assembly processes for thermal protection systems.
- Experience with WindChill PLM and design review processes/requirements management frameworks.
- Experience working in an ITAR-controlled environment.
