TL;DR

Senior Software Engineer (Observability): Building and evolving observability and resilience standards across Datadog's engineering organization with an accent on scalable tooling, automation, and reliability baselines. Focus on designing systems that make observability the default experience for service owners while driving measurable risk reduction and engineering effectiveness.

Location: Must be based in New York, New York, USA (Hybrid workplace)

Salary: $175,000 — $240,000 USD

What you will do

  • Define and evolve observability and resilience baselines to ensure measurable risk reduction across services.
  • Measure service compliance against standards and drive sustainable solutions to close identified gaps.
  • Design and deliver scalable observability capabilities across the software development lifecycle using automation and AI-driven solutions.
  • Partner with platform, SRE, product, and engineering teams to ensure adoption and sustained coverage.
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to team members through design reviews and collaborative problem-solving.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering or site reliability engineering supporting production systems at scale.
  • Hands-on expertise with observability and resilience practices, including mitigating service failure modes.
  • Strong programming skills in Go and/or Python.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled software features end-to-end.
  • Strong communication and mentorship skills with the ability to influence technical direction.
  • Must be eligible for US government export control authorizations.
