Systems Engineer (Autonomous Systems)

Location: Swindon, United Kingdom; willingness to travel for field testing across the UK and Europe.

What you will do

• Own the technical coherence of autonomous products from concept through delivery, aligning sensing, compute, and actuation subsystems with mission goals.
• Coordinate integration across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams, translating high-level requirements into detailed designs.
• Lead Preliminary Hazard Analyses and System/Subsystem Hazard Assessments to identify and mitigate risks.
• Drive FMEA and DFMEA activities, identify single points of failure, and assess the impact of design changes.
• Define Interface Control Documents and system architecture layouts for complex data and power flows.
• Maintain requirements baselines and end-to-end traceability in IBM DOORS, support field tests, and preserve configuration control.

Requirements

• Degree in Systems, Aerospace, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related Engineering discipline.
• Understanding of the Systems Engineering V-model and requirements capture, verification, and validation processes.
• Familiarity with power distribution, RF, sensors, or embedded controllers.
• Introductory awareness of safety-critical standards including ARP4754A, ISO 26262, or DO-178C.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with close attention to technical detail.
• Must hold or be eligible to obtain UK defence security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering or digital twin concepts.
• Experience with rapid prototyping or hardware-software startup environments.
• Interest in robotics, edge computing, or multi-domain autonomous technology.
