Senior Network Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, Austin, US; North American-based role. Applicants progressing to the offer stage may need to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

What you will do

• Own the technical operation, engineering, architecture, capacity planning, installation, and day-to-day management of the edge and backbone network.
• Diagnose and resolve complex network faults, lead incident response and on-call rotations, and contribute to post-incident reviews.
• Design, ship, and maintain production LLM-powered agents integrated with operational systems through tool calling.
• Apply Workers AI and AI Gateway to improve root-cause analysis, fault pattern recognition, and operational decision-making.
• Architect improvements that reduce latency and packet loss while increasing network scale and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers, establish technical standards, and collaborate on network projects, design documentation, SOPs, and knowledge-base content.

Requirements

• Proven experience in large-scale network engineering and operations.
• Programming proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and/or Go for building and maintaining agent code.
• Experience with function or tool calling, MCP or equivalent integrations, retrieval over operational documentation, prompt iteration, and evaluations.
• Deep expertise in BGP and anycast routing, plus strong knowledge of MPLS, Segment Routing, and multiple vendor operating systems such as Juniper, Cisco, or Arista.
• Experience with network automation frameworks such as SaltStack or Ansible and solving operational problems through code.
• Ability to lead calmly under pressure, communicate with varied audiences, and mentor engineers.

Nice to have

• Production use of LLM-powered tooling by teams beyond the original development team.
• JNCIP, CCNP, or an equivalent or higher professional network certification.
• Experience with CWDM, DWDM, Linux system administration, and architectural network configuration and design documentation.
