TL;DR

People Operations Manager (HR): Establishing and managing the HR presence in California, owning the day-to-day people experience for West Coast operations with an accent on California employment law compliance and employee relations. Focus on managing the full employee lifecycle, supporting on-site leaders, and bridging the gap between local operations and the East Coast People team.

Location: On-site in San Jose, CA (with required visits to San Francisco and Palo Alto)

What you will do

  • Act as the primary HR point of contact for all California-based employees and on-site leaders.
  • Manage end-to-end employee relations, including investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management.
  • Oversee the full employee lifecycle, including onboarding and offboarding processes.
  • Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local California employment laws.
  • Maintain data integrity and policy administration within Rippling for CA employees.
  • Partner with the TA team to support sourcing and coordination for California front-line roles.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of HR/People experience, ideally in multi-site, property management, or hospitality environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of California employment law.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent on-site presence across the California portfolio.
  • Proven ability to operate autonomously with a proactive "see it, own it, fix it" mindset.
  • Excellent communication skills to serve as a bridge between local teams and the East Coast function.

Nice to have

  • Spanish fluency.
  • Experience supporting recruiting or sourcing.
