TL;DR

Head of AI Research (AI): Driving a pragmatic applied research agenda to enable AI capabilities in multiphysics reasoning, spatial reasoning, and agentic execution with an accent on building an engineering AGI. Focus on leading a team of world-class researchers, optimizing model training compute, and integrating AI into physical product domains.

Location: Hybrid; significant in-person presence required in the San Mateo, Calif. office. Relocation to the Bay Area is supported.

What you will do

• Develop and drive the execution of the AI research agenda in collaboration with the CEO.
• Attract, recruit, and retain world-class AI research talent to grow the team.
• Contribute as an individual researcher on key AI agenda items.
• Represent the company at conferences, in publications, and within academic institutions.
• Manage model training compute resources.
• Establish applied AI research capabilities for the P-1 Defense subsidiary.

Requirements

• Accomplished AI researcher with a track record in pre/mid/post-training multi-modal models, world models, or reinforcement learning.
• Proven experience leading and managing teams of researchers and engineers in startups, labs, or academia.
• Strong interest in AI applications for the physical world.
• Must be comfortable with significant in-person presence in San Mateo, California.
• Eligible for a security clearance.
