What you will do

• Lead backend engineering for the Feed team, including feed and recommendation systems, with a major focus on feed insertions.
• Grow and manage backend engineers while raising standards for backend architecture, scale, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Own scope across feed experiences and feed foundations (ranking, product surfaces like For You/category feeds/vertical scroll, plus shared capabilities such as shadow traffic, filtering, hydration, and logging).
• Drive technical direction and system design by partnering with senior engineers and tech leads, making clear engineering tradeoffs across workstreams.
• Build team operating mechanisms for planning, execution visibility, rollout discipline, on-call, incident response, and accountability for production behavior.
• Partner with product, machine learning, platform, and client engineering to deliver high-quality discovery experiences and evolve areas like vertical scroll.

Requirements

• Engineering management or tech lead management experience leading backend engineers in fast-moving product or platform environments.
• Strong experience designing, building, and operating scalable backend systems with a track record of improving engineering quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
• Strong technical judgment and systems thinking; ability to challenge designs, understand failure modes, and guide engineering tradeoffs.
• Experience leading teams through ambiguity, setting clear direction, and maintaining execution momentum in cross-functional environments.
• Strong communication, people leadership, and coaching skills, including hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers.
• Must live within commuting distance of the New York City hub.
