TL;DR

Location: Hybrid/in-office preferred in San Mateo, California, with remote flexibility considered for candidates within the United States.
Salary: $210,000 – $260,000

What you will do
- Own the technical direction and evolution of systems powering student-facing academic journeys.
- Ensure registration systems perform reliably and efficiently during high-stakes peak periods.
- Design systems capable of handling high concurrency and demand with clear validation strategies.
- Drive the product evolution from degree-centric to flexible, career-oriented planning experiences.
- Define and mentor the team on best practices, design patterns, and code quality.
- Develop robust testing strategies to validate system behavior under extreme load.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience operating at scale.
- Proven track record as a technical lead on complex implementations.
- Strong intuition for designing systems that behave predictably under peak load and concurrency.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and database optimization (PostgreSQL preferred).
- Experience with asynchronous or event-based architectures.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Nice to have
- Experience with Django, Angular, React, or Remix.
- Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and deployment tools.
- Experience with observability tools like Sentry, Grafana, or Prometheus.
