Behavioral Health Medical Director – Clinical Architect (Virtual Primary Care)

Salary: $275,000–$380,000 annual base salary

What you will do

• Lead the strategic design, rollout, and scaling of integrated behavioral health services and virtual Serious Mental Illness clinics.
• Provide direct psychiatric care and prescribing for high-acuity, medically fragile geriatric members.
• Lead the national asynchronous behavioral health e-consult ecosystem.
• Design workflows focused on total cost of care reduction, symptom remission, PHQ-9 tracking, and emergency department diversion.
• Own the service line budget, organizational structure, recruitment, mentoring, performance auditing, and supervision of clinical staff.
• Partner with engineering and data teams to optimize the Orinoco EMR and integrate generative AI features that reduce clinical documentation burden.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree and active, unrestricted ABPN Board Certification in Adult Psychiatry.
• 3–5 years of active clinical experience managing high-acuity SMI, severe mood disorders, schizophrenia, or complex geriatric populations.
• Experience with operational leadership, budget management, or program building in a healthcare system or digital health startup.
• Practical experience implementing, auditing, or designing Collaborative Care Models or integrated behavioral health registries.
• Telehealth experience and an active medical license in at least one core market, with willingness to obtain multi-state licenses as the virtual footprint expands.
• Metrics-driven, resilient servant leadership and the ability to work at a fast, iterative startup pace.

Nice to have

• Board certification or fellowship training in Geriatric Psychiatry or Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
• Experience with dually eligible Medicaid/Medicare populations.
• Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement training.
• Experience partnering with software engineers on custom EMR optimization or medical AI applications.
