Principal Software Engineer

TL;DR

Principal Software Engineer (Backend/Agentic AI): Design and evolve backend platforms that enable Agentic AI products, with an accent on multi-year architecture for APIs, data flows, event/stream processing, and multi-tenant isolation. Focus on building secure, reliable, low-latency, event-driven systems at global scale while leading CI/CD, IaC, observability, and operational excellence.

Location: Hybrid in Galway office or remotely within Ireland; remote employees expected to attend in person 2–3 times per month.

What you will do

• Own multi-year backend strategy for APIs, data flows, events/streams, storage, consistency, and multi-tenant isolation for Agentic AI workloads.
• Standardize service templates, libraries, REST/event patterns, schema versioning, automated testing, and documentation across teams.
• Drive scale, reliability, and cost engineering: SLOs/SLA design, capacity planning, graceful degradation, performance engineering, and stewardship for latency-sensitive workloads.
• Ensure data platform governance: ingestion, transformation, cataloguing, lineage, retention, residency, and privacy-by-design.
• Lead operational excellence: CI/CD, IaC, progressive delivery, runtime hardening, observability, and on-call practices; convert incidents into systemic fixes.
• Champion security and influence architecture through reviews, documentation, and cross-team program leadership.

Requirements

• 8+ years building and operating backend/platform software with evidence of technical leadership and impact across teams.
• Deep expertise in Java and/or Python, plus strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and distributed-systems design.
• Proven experience with event-driven and service-oriented architectures (e.g., Kafka/Kinesis/SQS) and REST APIs, including schema evolution, idempotency, and backwards-compatible APIs.
• Expertise running on AWS at scale (IAM, networking, DynamoDB/RDS, S3, ECS/serverless, CloudWatch/OpenTelemetry) and modern DevOps/SRE practices (CI/CD, IaC, automated testing, runbooks).
• Comfort partnering with AI/ML teams to support LLM-adjacent systems (feature stores, vector stores, evaluation harnesses, safety/guardrails) even without being the model expert.
• Location requirement: must work hybrid from the Galway office or remotely within Ireland, with 2–3 in-person visits per month for remote employees.
