CAE Methods Technical Specialist (Structures & Fatigue): Defining and industrializing advanced virtual engineering methods for structural durability and fatigue across vehicle and propulsion systems with an accent on fracture mechanics and manufacturing-induced performance variation. Focus on leading high-visibility technical initiatives, developing predictive simulation workflows, and influencing enterprise-level engineering strategy to reduce hardware dependence.
Location: Hybrid (Warren, Michigan). Must be able to report to the office at least 3 times a week.

What you will do
- Serve as the enterprise subject matter expert for CAE methods in structures, durability, and fatigue.
- Define the technical vision and roadmap for next-generation virtual engineering capabilities.
- Develop, validate, and deploy improved simulation workflows and standards across development programs.
- Lead complex, high-visibility capability development initiatives integrating multiple engineering disciplines.
- Drive innovation in advanced durability technologies including crack propagation and multi-axial fatigue.
- Mentor engineers and influence cross-functional stakeholders to adopt new technical standards.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of industry experience in structures, durability, or fatigue methods development.
- Expert knowledge of CAE tools such as Abaqus, HyperMesh, Nastran, or nCode.
- Proven ability to lead large cross-functional technical initiatives without formal authority.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the US; GM does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and complete a Motor Vehicle Report review.
Nice to have
- Deep expertise in manufacturing effects on structural performance (weld behavior, residual stress).
- DFSS Black Belt or Master Black Belt certification.
- Experience influencing commercial CAE software roadmaps.
- External technical visibility through patents or standards work.
