What you will do

  • Support the magazine’s editorial director across both print and digital departments.
  • Handle administrative tasks including writer assignments, payment processing, and travel paperwork.
  • Conduct detailed research for writers on deadline and coordinate editorial closings.
  • Review incoming articles and provide feedback on reporting, narrative, structure, and tone.
  • Manage books coverage by communicating with publishers and tracking forthcoming titles.
  • Assess pitches from freelance writers and generate original story ideas.

Requirements

  • At least 1.5 years of editorial or reporting experience.
  • High level of organization and strict attention to detail.
  • Knowledgeable and engaged with politics and cultural matters.
  • Familiarity with The New Yorker’s distinctive prose style and content.
  • Must be based in New York, NY.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
