Mainframe Network Engineer (Hybrid Role)

Location: Phoenix, AZ, USA (onsite 3 days a week; live in or around the Phoenix Metro Area; relocation considered)

Salary: $63,840–$121,440 (U.S. compensation range)

What you will do

• Install, configure, and maintain z/OS Communications Server components and TCP/IP configuration.
• Maintain and troubleshoot VTAM definitions, network resources, and connectivity for Enterprise Extender and SNA.
• Support TN3270 access and session connectivity for end users and applications.
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity issues across mainframe, distributed servers, vendors/partners, enterprise applications, and middleware (routing, ports, sessions, DNS, firewall blocks).
• Support secure file transfer protocols including FTP and SFTP.
• Collaborate on security/compliance and disaster recovery: enforce secure communication standards (TLS/SSL), validate firewall rules/ports, and support DR failover communication paths and DR tests.

Requirements

• Must live in or around the Phoenix, AZ area and be onsite 3 days a week.
• 5+ years of experience in mainframe networking or z/OS communications support.
• Solid knowledge and experience with TCP/IP on z/OS, VTAM, SNA/Enterprise Extender, TN3270, FTP/SFTP, and TLS.
• Familiarity with JCL, TSO/ISPF, and SDSF.
• Ability to analyze logs, traces, and dumps related to communications issues.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting transmission products such as Connect Direct.
• IBM mainframe or networking certifications.
• Experience in on-call rotation and independent troubleshooting.
