Senior Bioinformatics Data Engineer (Pharma)

What you will do

• Build Dagster-orchestrated ingestion pipelines for genomics vendors including IO managers and Iceberg writers.
• Develop dbt Silver-to-Gold transformations with real-data test coverage and macro consolidation.
• Implement clinical data ingestion paths using SDTM and ADaM standards.
• Deliver platform infrastructure including FastAPI endpoints, CI/CD pipelines, and Redshift performance tuning.
• Extract transformation rules from legacy R and PySpark code to reconcile with new implementations.
• Collaborate with lead engineers through paired working and PR reviews to ensure reproducibility and code quality.

Requirements

• Must be based in the United States.
• 5+ years of professional data engineering experience with production pipelines on AWS (S3, ECS/Fargate, Redshift).
• Demonstrated AI-native engineering practice using agents like Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex.
• Advanced proficiency in Python, SQL, dbt, and orchestration tools (Dagster, Airflow, or Prefect).
• Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field.
• Ability to handle PHI-adjacent clinical data and pass required background checks.

Nice to have

• Experience with Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue Catalog, or lakehouse formats.
• Knowledge of genomic data (VCF, HGVS, CNV/fusion) and CDISC standards.
• Background in Pharma, clinical research, or life sciences.
• Proficiency in R and experience with Docker/ECS and CloudFormation.
