TL;DR

Senior Payload Systems Engineer (Aerospace): Defining mission, satellite, and payload architecture for next-generation space constellations with an accent on electrical, mechanical, and data interface optimization. Focus on leading system-level trades, assessing radiation mitigation strategies, and ensuring mission success through rigorous engineering and cross-functional collaboration.

Location: Must be based in Westminster, CO (Onsite). Must be a U.S. Person (Citizen, Permanent Resident, Asylee, or Refugee).

Salary: $107,000 – $157,300 annually.

What you will do

  • Serve as the technical interface between imaging payloads and spacecraft buses to ensure joint performance optimization.
  • Lead system-level trade studies to evaluate design alternatives, performance, cost, and risk.
  • Assess and troubleshoot payload and bus designs at the circuit level.
  • Support radiation analysis and mitigation strategies for space-qualified electronics.
  • Perform signal and power integrity analyses in accordance with space standards (MIL-STD, NASA, etc.).
  • Contribute to design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) and maintain interface control documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with an active secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience with space-based optical remote sensing payloads, specifically LEO missions.
  • Proven experience in electrical systems engineering for space platforms, including radiation effects.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with FPGA, processor, and memory technologies.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, block diagrams, and PCB layouts.

Nice to have

  • Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB, STK, SPICE, or HFSS.
  • Familiarity with imaging payloads (visible, multispectral, hyperspectral) and performance metrics.
  • Experience with fault management and design for reliability in long-duration missions.
