Director of Operations & Maintenance

TL;DR

Director of Operations & Maintenance (O&M): Build and lead the Monarch Compute Campus O&M organization from pre-operational planning through full operation with an accent on safe, reliable operation of a state-certified AI microgrid and hyperscale data center facilities. Focus on commissioning/start-up execution, reliability-centered maintenance, CMMS and spare parts strategy, and compliance reporting across complex generation and electrical/gas infrastructure.

Location: On-site in Mason County, West Virginia (must be based in or near Point Pleasant, WV)

Salary: $160,000 - $210,000 USD

What you will do

• Build the Monarch operating model: organization design, staffing plan, roles, and competency requirements.
• Recruit, hire, and develop O&M, maintenance, engineering, EHS, and support functions with an emphasis on local West Virginia talent.
• Lead operational readiness and commissioning workstreams: operating procedures, maintenance procedures, emergency response plans, and integrated management system.
• Own safe and reliable day-to-day operations of the generation fleet, microgrid, and data center facilities; define safety and performance KPIs.
• Develop and execute reliability-centered maintenance and asset management across engine fleet, electrical systems, gas systems, and DC facilities, including CMMS and spare parts strategy.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits, microgrid certifications, and regulatory obligations; report performance to leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive operations leadership in gas-fired power generation, large hyperscale data centers, or comparable critical industrial infrastructure.
• Experience commissioning and starting up greenfield generation or data center assets.
• Senior leadership experience managing 100+ person operations organizations.
• Strong safety leadership with a personal commitment to zero harm.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Must be based in or near Point Pleasant, WV (on-site in Mason County, West Virginia).

Nice to have

• Direct experience operating reciprocating engine fleets or large gas turbine power stations.
• Advanced degree.
