TL;DR
Silicon Photonic Design Engineer (Silicon Photonics): Designing and characterizing active and passive photonic integrated components, circuits, and high-bandwidth optical systems with an accent on photonic simulations, mask layout, tape-out, and device testing. Focus on translating specifications into verified layouts, analyzing measurement data against simulations, and solving component and integrated-circuit failure modes.

What you will do

  • Simulate and design active and passive photonic integrated components, circuits, and high-bandwidth photonic systems.
  • Translate device specifications into mask layouts and drive tape-out activities, including layout verification, DRC, and documentation.
  • Contribute to simulation and mask layout software, including PDK development and maintenance.
  • Test and characterize photonic components and integrated circuits for qualification.
  • Analyze measurement data against simulations to optimize device performance.
  • Perform root-cause and failure analysis of components and integrated circuits.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant research or engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of silicon photonics, semiconductor physics, optical component design, fabrication, and testing.
  • Hands-on experience with photonic device characterization and testing in a development environment.
  • In-depth expertise in at least two areas including photonic electromagnetic simulations, RF PCB design and simulation, or code-based photonic IC mask layout.
  • Eligibility to access export-controlled technology and software under applicable U.S. export control laws may be required.

Nice to have

  • Industry experience in a high-tech environment.
  • Optical communications or high-frequency electro-optical characterization above 40 GHz.
  • Experience with Lumerical, HFSS, Synopsys, external PDKs, libraries, DRC, and multi-foundry tape-outs.
  • High-speed testing experience.
