Payroll Officer

Location: Remote, United Kingdom; hybrid working options are also available.

Salary: £28,000–£32,000 per year, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Manage a portfolio of customers’ monthly payroll operations from start to finish.
• Ensure staff are paid accurately and on schedule.
• Maintain pay scales, pension rates, National Insurance rates, and tax thresholds in the payroll system.
• Calculate holiday pay for leavers and statutory payments, including maternity and paternity pay.
• Process accurate payments and reports for external stakeholders, including HMRC.
• Maintain compliance with GDPR and ISO27001 data protection standards.

Requirements

• Degree-level education and/or a relevant payroll qualification.
• Previous experience processing payroll; education-sector experience is beneficial.
• Strong understanding of HMRC requirements, tax, National Insurance, and statutory deductions.
• Experience with auto-enrolment pension schemes.
• Proficiency with Google Suite, data analysis, attention to detail, and multitasking under pressure.
• Proactive use of AI to improve work processes.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of the Local Government Pension Scheme or Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
