What you will do

• Lead technical direction for backend services, APIs, data models, and real-time communication systems.
• Design and build scalable social features including conversations, reactions, invites, and presence.
• Translate ambiguous product goals into clear technical plans in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
• Own reliability, performance, security, and operational quality for production backend systems.
• Design resilient distributed systems using async processing, caching, and event-driven workflows.
• Mentor engineers and drive the adoption of strong engineering and AI-assisted development practices.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional experience building backend services for mobile apps, games, or complex social products.
• Deep professional expertise with C#, ASP.NET, and production backend service development.
• Strong systems design skills across distributed systems, API design, and scalability.
• Experience building cloud-native services on AWS (DynamoDB, Redis, OpenSearch, SQS/SNS, Lambda, ECS).
• Solid understanding of concurrency, design patterns, and application security concepts.
• Must be based in Canada or the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience building real-time chat, messaging, social graphs, or activity feed systems.
• Knowledge of trust and safety systems, content moderation, and abuse detection.
• Experience with Unity, mobile game backend systems, or game client/server integrations.
• Expertise in DynamoDB single-table design or high-scale access patterns.
