Software Engineer, Backend Web Development (Java/Python)

Software Engineer, Backend Web Development (Java/Python): Building and optimizing web products and tooling for GM's Brands & Marketing team with an accent on API design, cloud systems, and CMS integration. Location: Hybrid: Must be based in Austin, TX (required presence 3-4 days per week at the IT Innovation Center)

What you will do

• Develop and maintain a complete web technology stack encompassing client, framework, and services.
• Design and architect high-quality, unit-tested software integrated into continuous integration pipelines.
• Build and optimize APIs, Content Management Systems (CMS), and cloud-edge systems.
• Investigate and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure system scalability and reliability.
• Lead engineering efforts, mentor less experienced engineers, and foster a strong technical team culture.
• Implement cloud automation using tools such as Helm, Terraform, and ArgoCD.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of experience in backend web development (Java with Spring Boot, Python, or server-side JavaScript).
• Experience with Kubernetes, CDNs/Edge Compute (Akamai), and cloud platforms (Azure and/or GCP).
• Proficiency in implementing microservices and utilizing HTTP APIs (REST, GraphQL) and CMS.
• Ability to conduct performance analysis and write comprehensive unit tests.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, TN, STEM, OPT) now or in the future.

Nice to have

• 2+ years of experience with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
• Experience in Full-Stack development.
• Proficiency with observability tools like Datadog.
• Experience with analytics tools (Heap, Adobe Analytics) and automation testing tools (Browserstack, Playwright).
