TL;DR

Design Leader Technical (Automotive): Leading and mentoring design teams for AVD Chassis Structures, Suspensions, and Steering with an accent on technical direction and compliance with GM design standards. Focus on managing design project assignments, optimizing workload leveling, and ensuring high-quality CAD deliverables.

Location: Hybrid (Warren, Michigan). Must be based in the US; this role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Provide technical direction and daily work assignments for designers specializing in chassis structures, suspensions, and steering.
• Mentor the team on product and math-based processes, ensuring strict adherence to GM Design Standards and Best Practices.
• Manage design project assignments, timing, and workload leveling within the group.
• Execute layout studies and alternatives and provide recommendations for program direction.
• Apply manufacturability and Design for Assembly (DFA) knowledge to parts and subsystem designs.
• Collaborate with global partners, CAE, and program teams to ensure the completion of deliverables per GPDP requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Product Design / Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 8 years of product design experience.
• Proficiency in CAD software and tools, including NX, Teamcenter Engineering, and Teamcenter Visualization.
• Expertise in product design concepts and manufacturing processes relevant to chassis, suspension, and steering.
• Proficiency in GD&T.
• Must have valid US work authorization; GM does not provide immigration sponsorship for this role.

Nice to have

• ASME certification in GD&T.
• Prior experience specifically in Suspensions and Chassis Structures design.
• Experience with Sketcher and Motions tools.
