Experience Design Principal (Service Design)

Location: Any UK office hub: Bristol, London, Manchester, or Swansea. Part-time remote working is available for staff. Candidates must be eligible for SC security clearance, which requires five years of UK residency and five years of employment history or full-time education.

Salary: £72,000–£90,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead experience design for one or more complex client engagements.
• Translate product visions into experience strategies and oversee usability improvements and end-to-end journeys across web and app channels.
• Collaborate with user researchers, interaction designers, content designers, engineers, data analysts, and client product owners.
• Advise clients, build trusted relationships, and oversee concurrent deliveries to maintain quality and share best practice.
• Coach and manage designers through performance feedback, reviews, and professional development.
• Support practice leadership, communities of practice, business development, bids, pre-sales, and practice growth.

Requirements

• Strong practical experience applying user-centred design in public-sector environments, including GDS/CDDO standards.
• Working knowledge of user research, content design, interaction design, and service design.
• Extensive experience leading complex digital products, UX strategies, and end-to-end user-journey mapping.
• Ability to balance user needs, accessibility, technical constraints, and business goals.
• Exceptional consulting skills and experience building relationships with senior client stakeholders.
• Eligibility for SC security clearance, including five years of UK residency and five years of employment history or full-time education.
