Sr. Director of Engineering (ML)

What you will do

• Lead and grow the AI/ML Engineering team, coordinating execution with data scientists on collaborative projects.
• Design and operate the core AI/ML platform, including agent frameworks, evaluation harnesses, labeling systems, and semantic search.
• Ensure production-grade reliability, observability, and performance of AI/ML systems at scale.
• Establish processes to transition data science proof-of-concepts into scalable, production-grade services.
• Partner with the Chief AI Officer and Product Manager to define and drive forward-looking product strategy.
• Manage capacity planning and streamline delivery processes to increase team velocity and predictability.

Requirements

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years managing teams of 8+ engineers with hands-on technical leadership.
• 8+ years of experience as a technical contributor in backend services.
• 3+ years building production-grade AI/ML services at scale for multiple use cases.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Scala, Rust, or similar backend languages, plus Python.
• Deep understanding of ML platform productization, including serving, observability, and reliability.
