TL;DR

Global Technical Specialist (Automotive): Developing high-fidelity CFD simulations for internal combustion engine airflow and combustion with an accent on fuel spray, mixture preparation, and emissions control. Focus on optimizing combustion chamber geometries, enhancing prediction fidelity, and driving the transition to an all-virtual development future.

Location: Hybrid: Must report to the office in Pontiac or Warren, Michigan at least three times per week. No immigration sponsorship provided.

What you will do

  • Lead technical method development for fuel spray, in-cylinder mixture preparation, combustion analysis, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Design and optimize combustion chamber geometries to improve efficiency, power output, and emissions performance.
  • Simulate and interpret combustion processes, heat transfer, cold start behavior, and catalyst heating strategies.
  • Provide system-level design recommendations to hardware and calibration specialists based on analysis results.
  • Enhance standard analysis practices and tools to improve prediction fidelity and execution speed.
  • Lead cross-functional teams including engine design, calibration, controls, and emissions compliance.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience with compressible CFD analysis of powertrain-related systems.
  • MS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with a focus on ICE or fluid dynamics.
  • 7+ years of experience in CFD software (CONVERGE, STAR-CD, STAR-CCM+ or similar) for combustion simulation.
  • Proficiency with CFD meshing software such as ProStar, ICEM, Hypermesh, or Tgrid.
  • Programming proficiency in Java, MATLAB, or Python for workflow automation.
  • Must have valid US work authorization; no immigration sponsorship is available for this role.

Nice to have

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
  • Experience applying machine learning and data-driven modeling techniques to engine simulations.
  • Proficiency with 1D engine simulation software like GT-Power, WAVE, or AVL Boost.
  • Hands-on experience with engine testing and calibration tools (AVL Concerto, Indicom, ETAS).
