Java Engineer (Backend Platform)

Location: Hybrid - minimum 2 days per week in office, Budapest, Hungary

Salary: HUF 1,000,000 – 1,500,000 per month

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and data pipelines using Java.
• Implement event-driven architectures to handle high-volume, real-time data streams via Kafka.
• Deploy and operate cloud-native services on AWS, including S3, Lambda, and SQS.
• Define and maintain API schemas (REST and WebSockets) in collaboration with frontend engineers.
• Build comprehensive observability into services using metrics, structured logging, and distributed tracing.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code practices.

Requirements

• Strong experience with Java 11 or later, focused on clean and performant code.
• Hands-on production experience with AWS (S3, Lambda, SQS).
• Proven experience building and operating microservices and distributed systems at scale.
• Solid understanding of data pipeline design, transformation, and normalization patterns.
• Familiarity with observability tooling such as Datadog, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
• Must be based in Budapest and able to work from the office at least 2 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kafka, Apache Flink, Kafka Streams, or Spark Streaming.
• Knowledge of AWS Greengrass or edge-to-cloud IoT patterns.
• Experience with data lake architectures and formats like Apache Iceberg or Parquet.
• Proficiency with WebSocket-based APIs for real-time data delivery.
• Experience with GitHub Actions, Terraform, or similar IaC tools.
