Sr. Counsel, Regulatory

Location: Hybrid role based locally near Databricks offices in Bellevue, Washington; Seattle, Washington; or Washington, D.C., with in-office expectations.

Salary: $197,800–$272,050 USD annually, plus potential annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Serve as the primary internal subject matter expert on global regulatory frameworks outside privacy and export controls, including DORA, NIS-2, CSR, the EU Data Act, EU AI Act, CRA, DMA, DSA, antitrust, competition, and payments regulation.
• Lead the regulatory roadmap, triage process, incident response playbooks, and continuous improvement OKRs.
• Embed regulatory compliance by design into the Data Intelligence Platform, Lakehouse, and agentic AI workflows in partnership with Engineering, Product, Security, and legal teams.
• Support enterprise negotiations and partnerships, develop negotiation fallbacks and customer-facing collateral, and advise highly regulated financial-services and public-sector customers.
• Operationalize compliance controls with Corporate Operations and support international expansion, local AI and data regulations, and EU data sovereignty.
• Provide proactive legal advice, training, and regulatory trend analysis while building relationships across geographically distributed stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 8 years of experience at a nationally recognized law firm and/or in-house legal department, with substantial focus on technology, data, or regulatory matters.
• J.D. from a top-tier law school.
• Membership in good standing of a state bar for U.S. candidates.
• Demonstrated experience advising on global data, digital, and/or technology regulation.
• Experience supporting SaaS, cloud, or data-platform products and partnering with Engineering, Product, and Security teams to operationalize regulatory requirements.
• Experience supporting commercial and go-to-market teams in customer-facing negotiations, including enterprise customers in highly regulated sectors.
• Ability to assess novel issues and provide concise, actionable, business-focused legal advice.
• Ability to build strong stakeholder relationships, manage deadlines and multiple cross-functional projects, and operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, and confidence interacting with senior management.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with the EU AI Act, EU Data Act, DORA, NIS-2, DSA, DMA, or analogous regulatory regimes is strongly preferred.
