Location: Fully remote for candidates based in Romania

What you will do

• Shape the technical direction and architecture standards for the payments platform.
• Design and deliver secure, resilient, and cost-effective payment solutions.
• Guide engineering teams in building a modern microservices-based architecture.
• Collaborate with external PSPs, gateways, and payment partners on integrations.
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide targeted hands-on technical contributions.
• Contribute to the technical roadmap and produce high-quality documentation.

Requirements

• Strong experience with payment systems, PSPs, gateways, and acquirers.
• Proven track record at Principal or Staff level shaping technical direction.
• Deep expertise in designing distributed systems and microservices.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and translate complex problems into practical technical approaches.
• Must be based in Romania

Nice to have

• Experience with transit payments (contactless EMV, tap-to-ride).
• Knowledge of card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, Interac).
• Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, DynamoDB, MySQL, Terraform, and GitLab CI/CD.
• Exposure to AI-enabled systems and their production architectural implications.
