Senior Bioinformatics Scientist (MRD Diagnostics)

Location: Remote within the United States, or onsite in San Diego, California, or South San Francisco, California.

Salary: $150,000–$189,000 USD annually, with ranges varying by work location.

What you will do

• Drive the design, development, optimization, and lifecycle management of MRD laboratory-developed tests.
• Design and execute analytical studies covering accuracy, limit of detection, reproducibility, and performance characterization.
• Develop, validate, and maintain production-ready bioinformatics pipelines for quality control, variant calling, MRD calling, and reporting.
• Benchmark and optimize computational methods, including background error modeling and longitudinal MRD tracking.
• Collaborate with wet-lab, clinical, quality, regulatory, biostatistics, data science, and software teams.
• Contribute technical documentation, validation reports, regulatory submissions, audits, and responses to regulatory inquiries.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Biostatistics, or a related quantitative field, or an M.Sc. plus three additional years of industry experience.
• At least six years of relevant experience in biotech, diagnostics, or regulated healthcare environments.
• Hands-on experience developing NGS-based clinical diagnostic assays and ctDNA-based MRD assays, including personalized or tumor-informed approaches.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience developing reproducible, production-grade analysis pipelines using software development lifecycle practices.
• Experience working in design-controlled regulated environments such as CAP/CLIA LDT or IVD settings.
• Experience developing bioinformatics methodologies and algorithms, benchmarking computational methods, and working with wet-lab scientists on iterative experiments.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying bioinformatics workflows in AWS, including EC2, S3, Step Functions, Batch, or Lambda.
• Knowledge of germline and somatic mutation processes, complex genomic variation, and genome-wide biomarkers.
• Working knowledge of R.
• Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
