What you will do

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of web and mobile applications using React, React Native, Ruby on Rails, and Node.js.
• Define software architecture to ensure modularity, scalability, and seamless EHR integration.
• Establish engineering standards and foster a Community of Practice across multiple delivery teams.
• Evangelize and integrate AI-powered tools like GitHub Copilot and MCP servers into the development workflow.
• Collaborate in an Agile environment, conducting code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring teammates.
• Contribute to recruitment, hiring, and business development efforts.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience as a software engineer and 5+ years in a leadership role such as Software Architect or Tech Lead.
• Proficiency in Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, TypeScript, JavaScript, and GraphQL.
• Must have lived and worked in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (E-Verify participant); no visa sponsorship available.
• Experience with DevOps processes, automated testing (RSpec, React Testing Library), and Agile methodologies.
• Ability to handle high-complexity tasks independently and collaboratively in an open-source environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with US Web Design System and vets-gov/vets-api codebases.
• Knowledge of building AI services, RAG pipelines, or vector databases.
• Previous experience working with government agencies, specifically the VA.
