TL;DR

Technical Operations & Process Documentation Specialist (Industrial/Utilities): Designing and maintaining critical operational manuals, SOPs, and job aids for field personnel with an accent on translating complex technical input from SMEs into usable language. Focus on conducting on-site field research, mapping processes, and ensuring strict adherence to safety and regulatory governance.

Location: Onsite in Long Beach, CA (includes required field visits)

Salary: $81,100 – $91,500

What you will do

  • Design, draft, and maintain Process Maps, SOPs, Job Aids, and comprehensive operational manuals.
  • Lead working sessions with SMEs and safety reviewers to reconcile technical perspectives into standardized work methods.
  • Conduct on-site field research and job walks to ensure documentation accurately reflects real-world execution.
  • Manage the documentation lifecycle, ensuring adherence to internal governance, safety requirements, and regulatory policies.
  • Update existing knowledge bases in response to pilot projects, new equipment rollouts, and corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with media vendors and perform basic image editing to develop instructional video and visual content.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Technical Writing, or a related technical/industrial discipline.
  • 5–8+ years of technical writing experience, or 3–5+ years with strong professional exposure to utilities, energy, or heavy industrial operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, SharePoint/OneDrive, and Acrobat.
  • Proven mastery of version control and documentation governance.
  • Ability to conduct on-site visits and job walks in Long Beach, CA.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with photo editing and basic media scripting/development.
  • Experience collaborating across diverse organizational levels, from C-suite executives to field technicians.
