What you will do

• Act as the technical authority on relevance metrics and evaluation methodology across the Consumer organization.
• Develop metrics frameworks and offline evaluation approaches for ranking and recommendation systems.
• Design and analyze complex experiments, addressing spillover effects and long-run impacts of ranking changes.
• Identify and unlock product insights regarding content quality and personalization effectiveness.
• Partner with ML engineers and product teams to translate model performance into user-facing impact.
• Mentor other data scientists on experimentation best practices, causal reasoning, and statistical rigor.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Statistics, CS, Information Retrieval, Economics, or similar (8+ years exp) or M.S. (12+ years exp).
• Must be based in Ontario, Canada.
• Deep expertise in metrics design, offline metrics, and counterfactual evaluation for ranking systems.
• Strong grounding in causal inference, experimental design, and variance reduction techniques.
• Expert knowledge of SQL and proficiency in R and/or Python for statistical computing.
• Experience mentoring data scientists and influencing organizational strategy via data-driven insights.

Nice to have

• Published research or industry contributions in recommendation systems or causal inference for ranking.
• Experience with social network or user-generated content platforms.
