Mechanical Engineer Intern (Power Electronics)

What you will do

• Design enclosures, heatsinks, insulators, and other components for power converters.
• Utilize CATIA V6/3DX for 3D designs and 2D drawings.
• Apply first principles approach to optimize parts via structural and thermal analysis.
• Conduct hands-on prototyping and validation testing.
• Collaborate with electrical, test, and manufacturing engineering teams as well as external suppliers.
• Own parts and assemblies from initial concept through high-volume production.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
• Strong history of designing mechanical parts or assemblies (portfolio required).
• Proficiency with at least one 3D CAD program.
• Solid engineering fundamentals and basic understanding of electronics.
• Ability to work on-site for the Fall term (typically August/September through December).

Nice to have

• Experience with high-volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, diecasting, and stamping.
• Knowledge of FEA, CFD, or multi-physics modeling (Ansys, MATLAB, Python, etc.).
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and DFMEAs.
• Familiarity with medium voltage (34.5kV) or grid-related products.
