Senior Platform Software Engineer

TL;DR

Senior Platform Software Engineer (Networking): Designs, develops, and debugs software programs for enhancements and new products in high-performance networking and security systems with an accent on operating systems, network subsystems, and embedded platforms. Focus on hardware compatibility, network interface, and link layer protocols within embedded and high-performance networking systems.

Location: Hybrid, expectation to work on average 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Salary: USD 120,500 - 243,000 in California

What you will do

• Design enhancements, updates, and programming changes for networking system software, including operating systems, networking components, and security functions.
• Develop and maintain network interfaces, protocols, and security functions, and underlying SoC SDK or drivers to meet high-performance and high-scalability requirements.
• Analyze design requirements, define coding and integration activities, and contribute to architectural reviews.
• Collaborate with hardware, QA, system test, and customer-facing teams to deliver robust, cost-effective software solutions.
• Investigate complex field issues through log-driven debugging, system-level analysis, and cross-layer collaboration.
• Support sustaining engineering through maintenance and enhancement of existing features.

Requirements

• Master or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems.
• 5-8 years of experience in networking, embedded systems, or high-performance security platforms.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Strong experience working with switches, routers, and security systems.
• Experience developing software for multi-core embedded platforms, including network interfaces, protocol handling, and security processing.
• Strong understanding of OS internals, virtualization, computer architecture, and system-level debugging.

Nice to have

• Experience with Link Layer protocols such as LACP, LLDP, EAPOL, etc.
• Experience with Broadcom and/or Marvell SDKs for switching or network-interface subsystems.
• Experience with AI tools for coding assistance (e.g., Copilot) and intelligent debugging.
• Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for predicting potential software or hardware errors.
