Senior Platform Software Engineer (Networking)

Location: Hybrid, with an expectation of working an average of 2 days per week from an HPE office; compensation information specifies the United States, including California.

Salary: USD 120,500–243,000 annual base salary in California, United States, with possible variable incentives.

What you will do

• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and debug software for high-performance networking and security systems.
• Develop and maintain network interfaces, protocols, security functions, SoC SDKs, and drivers for scalable multi-core embedded platforms.
• Analyze requirements, define coding and integration activities, and contribute to architectural reviews.
• Execute test plans, verification protocols, documentation, debugging, and continuous improvements.
• Investigate complex field issues through log-driven debugging, system-level analysis, and cross-layer collaboration.
• Collaborate with hardware, QA, system test, and customer-facing teams while supporting sustaining engineering.

Requirements

• Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Information Systems.
• 5–8 years of experience in networking, embedded systems, or high-performance security platforms.
• Strong programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with switches, routers, security systems, multi-core embedded platforms, and network interfaces.
• Strong understanding of operating system internals, virtualization, computer architecture, Unix/Linux environments, and system-level debugging.
• Knowledge of software testing methodologies, test plan execution, debugging tools, communication, collaboration, and mentoring.

Nice to have

• Experience with Link Layer protocols such as LACP, LLDP, and EAPOL.
• Experience with Broadcom or Marvell SDKs for switching or network-interface subsystems.
• Experience with AI coding assistants and intelligent debugging.
• Knowledge of AI/ML techniques for predicting potential software or hardware errors.
