What you will do

• Own and operate the AWS RDS (PostgreSQL) database fleet, ensuring reliability and cost-efficiency.
• Lead the strategic migration from self-managed RDS to fully managed AWS Aurora.
• Drive database performance by optimizing slow queries, tuning indexes, and managing connection pooling.
• Architect replication strategies, including read/write separation and streaming replication for high availability.
• Implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and disaster recovery procedures.
• Partner with product engineering on schema design and ensure security compliance in line with SOC 2 Type II.

Requirements

• 7+ years in backend or infrastructure engineering, with 3+ years focused on database engineering in production SaaS.
• Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including query optimization, EXPLAIN analysis, and partitioning.
• Hands-on experience with AWS managed databases (RDS and Aurora).
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform / OpenTofu) and scripting in Bash and Python.
• Experience with connection pooling (PgBouncer, RDS Proxy) and schema migration tools (Flyway, Liquibase).
• Must be based in the USA or Canada.

Nice to have

• Experience with other data stores such as MySQL, Redis, or DynamoDB.
• Familiarity with event streaming platforms like Kafka.
• Domain knowledge in billing, revehirify.global operations, or financial systems.
