Location: Must be based in New York City and able to work in a hybrid model (3 days in office).

What you will do

• Design and build production-grade backend services and data pipelines for ingestion and downstream consumption.
• Develop and operate data exchange interfaces, including APIs and delivery mechanisms, ensuring reliability and security.
• Make architectural decisions balancing cost, throughput, and system reliability across distributed environments.
• Implement resilient infrastructure with robust error handling, idempotency, and failure recovery strategies.
• Maintain end-to-end observability through structured logging, metrics, and alerting.
• Set technical direction and mentor mid/junior engineers to raise the bar on code quality and system design.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend or data platform systems.
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and message queues.
• Proficiency with AWS services including SQS, SNS, Kafka, Lambda, ECS, and S3.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases like PostgreSQL and DynamoDB.
• Productive in both Python and TypeScript.
• Must be based in NYC and able to work in the office 3 days per week.

Nice to have

• Experience with pipeline orchestration and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
• Background in web scraping or data acquisition at scale.
• Familiarity with vector databases, embeddings, or ML-adjacent infrastructure.
• Experience partnering with product, AI, and data science teams to translate business needs into technical decisions.
