Principal Embedded Software Engineer (C++/RTOS): Defining and owning the embedded software architecture for instrumentation and control (I&C) systems of portable nuclear microreactors with an accent on fault-tolerant, mission-critical systems and hardware interfacing. Focus on establishing engineering standards, developing low-level drivers, and building robust testing frameworks for safety-critical nuclear power technology.

Location: Must work 100% onsite in El Segundo, CA. No visa sponsorship available; must comply with U.S. export controls.

Salary: $200,500 – $314,475 + Equity

What you will do

• Define and own the embedded software architecture for I&C systems, establishing scalable patterns and standards.
• Lead the design and development of reliable, fault-tolerant embedded software for production hardware in demanding environments.
• Develop and bring up new drivers for sensing and actuation subsystems.
• Act as the senior technical voice in design reviews to surface systemic risks and drive cross-team decisions.
• Manage the full engineering lifecycle from architecture through test, build, and field implementation.
• Mentor embedded engineers and partner with electrical and controls leadership on system interfaces.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, CS, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of industry experience in embedded software with significant ownership of system-level architecture.
• Deep proficiency in embedded C/C++.
• Hands-on experience with RTOS (Zephyr, NuttX, ThreadX), including low-level bring-up and porting.
• Must work 100% onsite at El Segundo HQ.
• No visa sponsorship available; must be able to comply with U.S. export controls.

Nice to have

• Experience with Zephyr RTOS at an architectural or maintainer level.
• Experience with Simulink Autocode C++ export in production.
• Proficiency with CMake in large, multi-target embedded builds.
• Ability to interpret hardware schematics and debug at the hardware/software boundary.
• Experience in safety-critical domains such as aerospace, defense, medical, or nuclear.
