Software Engineer — App Modernization (Java)

Location: Remote for residents of Georgia, Serbia, Spain, Cyprus, or Poland; hybrid work is available for candidates based in Kraków or Limassol. Relocation to Poland or Cyprus is available with visa sponsorship.

What you will do

• Assess legacy applications end-to-end, including architecture, dependencies, infrastructure, risks, and business constraints, using AI-assisted analysis tools.
• Choose and defend migration strategies such as rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, or rebuilding.
• Execute modernization through framework and dependency upgrades, containerization, CI/CD setup, and deployment to cloud or optimized on-premises platforms.
• Work with application teams responsible for legacy systems and protect production systems supporting financial operations.
• Shape the modernization practice through reusable patterns, templates, and lessons learned.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with progressive seniority.
• Backend-first engineering experience with APIs, services, and data pipelines, plus the ability to navigate other application layers.
• Strong Java and Spring expertise; most target applications use Java.
• Hands-on experience modernizing enterprise applications from older frameworks, runtimes, or platforms.
• Broad infrastructure knowledge covering on-premises environments, cloud, Kubernetes, VMware, and bare metal.
• Working knowledge of enterprise middleware and data infrastructure, including messaging such as Kafka or JMS, relational databases such as Oracle or PostgreSQL, REST, gRPC, SOAP, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring stacks.
• Willingness to use Agentic AI and LLM tools as primary instruments for code analysis, migration, and development.
• Autonomous decision-making and experience with large organizations, large-scale existing systems, change management, and compliance requirements.
• Excellent written and spoken English, including technical communication, documentation, and migration-plan presentations.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.

Nice to have

• Experience with additional JVM or non-JVM backend stacks such as .NET, Python, or C++.
• Experience with AI or LLM tools for code analysis, migration, or large-scale refactoring.
• Financial services, capital markets, or fintech experience, including regulated environments, algo trading, post-trade processing, or real-time risk systems.
• Kubernetes deployment experience with EKS, Helm, or ArgoCD.
• Experience with cloud migration patterns such as lift-and-shift, strangler fig, blue-green deployments, and database migration strategies.
• Fluency with ServiceNow, Confluence, and Jira.
