HW Systems Test Engineer, Special Projects

Location: On-site 5 days per week in San Francisco, or in the Boulder/Denver area; travel to China and other locations may be required, up to 20%.

Salary: $90,000–$120,000 annually plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and run experiments to validate new hardware designs, analyze results, and turn test data into actionable information.
• Develop and maintain automated test applications, GUIs, data visualizations, and reporting for validation, reliability, and production environments.
• Prototype and test electromechanical systems involving sensors, pumps, mechanisms, electronics, instrumentation, and custom hardware or firmware.
• Build and deploy physical test fixtures and jigs using 3D printing, machining, quick-turn tooling, and specified mechanical interfaces.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering across the product development lifecycle.
• Perform hands-on root cause analysis, PCB-level debugging, rework, and failure investigation for test systems and products.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hardware/software test engineering experience focused on integrated systems.
• Experience shipping high-volume consumer products and supporting manufacturing in Asia; willingness and ability to travel to China as needed.
• Hands-on experience prototyping mechanical and electrical systems, soldering, wiring, debugging, PCB bring-up, and rework.
• Proficiency with 3D modeling tools such as SolidWorks or ProEngineer, plus experience using 3D printers and basic machine-shop tools.
• Experience with Python or C#/WPF for test GUIs, Git/GitHub, command-line scripting, and hardware communication protocols including I2C and SPI.
• BSEE, BSCE, BSCS, BSME, or equivalent; an MS is preferred.
