Quality Engineer (Electronics)

Location: Torrance, California, United States

Salary: $100,500–$162,000 USD per year, base salary only; equity grants may also be included in total compensation.

What you will do

• Own day-to-day electronics build quality across PCBAs, soldering, harnesses, cables, and battery packs.
• Respond to production-line issues, contain suspect products, disposition defects, and run electronics MRB activities.
• Lead root-cause investigations with Manufacturing and Engineering and verify corrective actions on the production line.
• Track FPY, defect Pareto, scrap, rework, and escapes; use SPC to detect process drift and drive recurring issues to closure.
• Create inspection plans and first article inspections for new builds, board revisions, and process changes.
• Certify inspectors and operators to IPC workmanship standards and audit the factory ESD control plan.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or physics.
• At least 2 years of experience in quality, manufacturing, reliability, or electrical design engineering.
• Experience with SMT processes and inspection, including solder paste, reflow, AOI, X-ray, ICT, or flying probe.
• Experience with through-hole soldering, component preparation, conformal coating, and common post-SMT defect modes.
• Proficiency in SQL and Python for querying production databases and analyzing manufacturing and test data.
• Ability to work onsite in Torrance, California, United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with high-volume electronics production, production ramps, ISO 9001, or AS9100 quality systems in defense or aerospace.
• Knowledge of RCCA, 8D, 5 Whys, fishbone analysis, PFMEA, control plans, FAI, and SPC.
• Working knowledge of IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, and ESD control programs.
• Experience with lithium-ion cells, battery pack quality, weld inspection, BMS verification, and electronics test equipment.
• Familiarity with drones, RC aircraft, or FPV hardware.
