TL;DR

Location: Hybrid (San Francisco or Toronto)

Compensation: $212,500 – $287,500 (San Francisco) / CA$174,729 – CA$236,398 (Toronto)

What you will do

  • Lead the technical resolution of complex, multi-system escalations requiring deep architectural thinking.
  • Identify systemic weaknesses across the product and partner with other engineering teams to address root causes.
  • Define and drive the technical strategy for observability, tooling, runbooks, and reliability standards.
  • Partner with the CPO and EM to shape the squad's roadmap, balancing reactive work with proactive investments.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and force multiplier for other engineers through code reviews and guidance.
  • Synthesize patterns from escalations into product insights to influence the roadmap without a dedicated PM.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with a demonstrated track record at the Staff level.
  • Must be based in or able to work from San Francisco or Toronto (Hybrid).
  • Exceptional diagnostic and systems-thinking skills for complex multi-service architectures.
  • Proven ability to influence across team boundaries and drive improvements without direct authority.
  • Strong product mindset to understand the "why" behind customer pain and make sound scope decisions.
  • Experience working in a high-growth SaaS company during rapid product evolution.

Nice to have

  • Experience building or leading reliability engineering (SRE) or platform functions.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML product systems and failure modes (data quality, model drift, pipeline failures).
  • Experience in regulated industries or with enterprise customers having high SLA expectations.
  • Prior background in incident command or escalation management frameworks.
