What you will do

• Drive long-term reliability and scalability of payments and billing ecosystems through sustainability engineering.
• Lead initiatives to identify and resolve technical debt, architectural weaknesses, and product gaps.
• Architect scalable systems and data models, writing design documents for large-scale platform changes.
• Provide technical leadership to help engineering teams navigate critical incidents and prevent recurring problems.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers through direct feedback and design reviews to raise the overall technical bar.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering Managers to refine the product roadmap and long-term vision.

Requirements

• Must be based within commuting distance of the Birmingham hub.
• Proven experience in architecting scalable, evolvable systems and managing complex data migrations.
• Strong expertise in both backend (API versioning, caching) and frontend architecture (state management, E2E/Cypress).
• Experience with SRE practices, observability, defining SLOs, and conducting blameless post-mortems.
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and drive alignment across multiple teams.
• English: Professional proficiency required as it is the official office language.

Nice to have

• Experience with or strong interest in modern AI-augmented workflows and agentic coding.
• Ability to develop custom agentic skills to extend AI capabilities within the engineering workflow.
