Lead Wetland Field Ecologist (Midwest)

Location: Wisconsin, USA; primarily Midwest field sites with potential work throughout the United States. The role requires approximately 80–90% travel during the field season, extended field days, weekend work, and multiple-week shifts away from home.

Salary: $27–$40 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Overtime applies to hours worked over 40 per week.

What you will do

• Lead, manage, train, and mentor multiple field crews conducting wetland and ecological surveys.
• Conduct wetland and stream delineations using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manual and applicable regional supplements.
• Collect, manage, and analyze geospatial data using Trimble and ESRI products.
• Perform habitat, functional, vegetation, wildlife, and qualified threatened and endangered species surveys.
• Prepare technical reports, memoranda, and permitting documents.
• Coordinate field requirements with project teams and permitting leads while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in biology, ecology, soil science, hydrology, environmental science, natural resources, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of wetland delineation experience, including at least 1 year leading wetland delineation teams.
• Knowledge of federal and state wetland regulations and familiarity with Midwest field work.
• Experience with Trimble and ESRI products and competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to conduct 10+ hour field days in adverse conditions, carry equipment up to 25 pounds, work weekends, and regularly exceed 40 hours per week.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Work authorization in the United States is required.
