Lead Wetland Field Ecologist (Environmental Science)

Location: MN, USA; field work primarily across the Midwest and potentially throughout the U.S. The role requires approximately 80–90% travel during the field season, extended workdays, weekends, and multi-week shifts away from home.

Salary: $27–$40 per hour, with overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week.

What you will do

• Lead, manage, train, and mentor multiple wetland field crews.
• Conduct wetland and stream delineations under U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manuals and applicable regional supplements.
• Collect, manage, and analyze geospatial data using Trimble and ESRI products.
• Perform habitat, functional, vegetation, wildlife, and qualified species-specific surveys.
• Prepare technical reports, memos, and permitting documents.
• Coordinate field expectations and data requirements with project teams and permitting leads while managing in-field safety risks.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Biology, Ecology, Soil Science, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field.
• At least 3 years of wetland delineation experience, including at least 1 year leading wetland delineation teams.
• Knowledge of federal and state wetland regulations and experience with Midwest field work.
• Familiarity with Trimble, ESRI, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work 10+ hour field days, weekends, more than 40 hours per week, adverse weather, steep terrain, and carry equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and authorization to work in the U.S. verified through E-Verify.

• Experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Atypical and Problem Wetland Areas methodology.
• Qualifications for threatened and endangered species or other species-specific surveys.
