Principal Software Engineer (Java)

TL;DR

Principal Software Engineer (Java): Leading the technical modernization and innovation of MineStar software systems with an accent on transforming legacy Java/J2EE applications into cloud-native, scalable architectures. Focus on evaluating emerging technologies, executing proof-of-concepts, and embedding AI into engineering workflows to improve developer productivity.

Location: Onsite five days a week in Brisbane, Australia. Must have full working rights for Australia (no visa sponsorship available).

What you will do

• Lead strategic modernization of legacy Java/J2EE applications to cloud-native microservices architectures.
• Drive experiments and proof-of-concepts (POCs) to evaluate new frameworks and architectural patterns.
• Define target architecture patterns and design principles for the broader MineStar development community.
• Mentor and coach engineers on object-oriented design and modern software engineering practices.
• Partner with DevOps teams to implement modern CI/CD and containerization practices.
• Embed AI and automation into engineering workflows to increase quality and delivery speed.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong track record of technical leadership.
• Expertise in Java/J2EE, Spring frameworks, and REST/JSON APIs.
• Proven experience transitioning legacy enterprise systems to microservices.
• Deep knowledge of database technologies including Postgres, SQL, and NoSQL.
• Proficiency with Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and Maven.
• Full working rights for Australia are mandatory.

Nice to have

• Experience in autonomous vehicles, mining, or industrial domains.
• Understanding of machine-to-cloud or edge-to-cloud communication protocols.
• Advanced degree (Bachelor's or Master's) in Computer Science or Engineering.
