TL;DR

Deputy General Counsel (Legal): Overseeing legal compliance and commercial contract strategy for a high-growth commerce platform with an accent on data privacy, consumer protection, and complex commercial negotiations. Focus on managing outside counsel, providing strategic legal advice to leadership, and ensuring regulatory compliance across the company's operations.

Location: Must be based in or able to commute to the Washington, D.C. office (Hybrid: Mon, Tue, Thu in-office).

Compensation: $200,000 – $220,000 + equity + benefits.

What you will do

  • Oversee the end-to-end contract review and execution process for the entire organization.
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements with merchant partners, data providers, and vendors.
  • Provide comprehensive legal counsel on contract law, privacy, data protection, and consumer protection regulations.
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel on specialized legal matters and commercial litigation.
  • Advise business leaders on legal risks and strategic decision-making.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in-house or at a law firm.
  • J.D. degree and active membership in at least one US state bar.
  • Extensive expertise in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.

  • Experience with data privacy law.
  • Prior experience in the technology industry.
