What you will do
- Drive major technical initiatives from design through production to improve sys scalability and reliability.
- Design and evolve backend services, APIs, and event-driven workflows supporting complex commercial processes.
- Improve operational foundations including observability, testing, and deployment safety.
- Solve complex challenges related to asynchronous processing, consistency, and failure recovery.
- Collaborate with ML and data teams to integrate forecasting and pricing models into production.
- Mentor senior engineers and influence architectural direction across the organization.
Requirements
- Must be based in the United Kingdom
- Proven experience at Staff or Senior Staff level leading technically complex initiatives.
- Deep expertise in distributed syss, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous workflows.
- Strong hands-on experience with Python and AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB).
- Ability to reason about data consistency, failure modes, and operational trade-offs.
- Strong cross-functional influence skills to align technical decisions with business outcomes.
Nice to have
- Experience with high-scale infrastructure or performance-sensitive syss.
- Background in platform engineering or internal developer platforms.
- Exposure to workflow engines, orchestration syss, or real-time decision syss.
- Familiarity with regulated industries such as energy, fintech, or govtech.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Spark, or large-scale data syss.
