What you will do
- Partner with staff engineers to propose high-impact engineering initiatives and influence technical strategy and governance.
- Design scalable backend services, APIs, and data platforms for new markets, tackling entity mapping and data modelling challenges.
- Drive database decoupling, system modularisation, and legacy system modernisation for improved scalability and maintainability.
- Review architecture across teams, guide pragmatic solutions, and ensure high-quality code through testing, logging, and alerting.
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering, establish best practices, and mentor senior engineers to raise the technical bar.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and platform teams to evolve the platform.
Requirements
- Proven track record building backend systems in data-intensive environments, from development to production.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, APIs, data pipelines, data modelling, and entity resolution.
- Experience with event-driven architectures, Kubernetes, AWS, database decoupling, and service-oriented architectures.
- Proficiency in Python or similar backend languages; experience modernising legacy systems.
- Ability to lead complex technical initiatives, operate in ambiguity, and communicate with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong product mindset and hands-on leadership balancing coding with guiding others.

- Experience as a founding engineer or CTO at a startup, or building systems from scratch in early-stage environments.
