What you will do

• Maintain and scale the Elasticsearch cluster and its configuration as a core member of the retrieval team.
• Design and tune mappings, analyzers, and tokenizers to ensure precise search relevance.
• Optimize query performance using DSL queries, filters, aggregations, and profiling.
• Operate production clusters, managing index lifecycles, shard allocation, and failure recovery.
• Collaborate with backend, AI, and data engineers to integrate ML/AI prediction services and data visualization.
• Lead systems design discussions and mentor junior developers as a senior individual contributor.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of Elasticsearch internals (inverted index, shards, segment merging, refresh/flush cycles).
• Strong experience with Python and web frameworks (FastAPI, Pydantic).
• Proven ability to design and deliver APIs and Service Oriented Architecture.
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems concepts and SQL.
• Location: Must be based in London to support the hybrid working model.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS Lambda, ECS, and Docker.
• Familiarity with Elastic Cloud deployment.
